The mosquitoes couldn't land and bite at 25 km/hr but swarmed so thick when I slowed that I could kill a dozen with one swat. At the RV park in Wisdom we rushed to get the tents up and to change into long sleeves and pants before being driven mad by the suckers.
I'm back on the Trans America Route riding through the Big Hole, one of my favorite cycling roads, heading up towards the Canada border. Tomorrow it's Curtis' WarmShowers home in Darby and on to Missoula the next day to stop at Shawn and Arlen's home before pushing on to Whitefish where the train leaves for the West Coast and the ferry to Alaska. The border remains closed but perhaps it might open by the end of the month when I get to Haines and Skagway.
Today's route overlapped with two big bicycle races. I saw the leader of the Great Divide Classic as he rode past on Highway 278 near Bannack, and I chatted with several of the Trans America Bike Race (TABR) on their way from Oregon to Virginia. Suddenly, after almost two months on my own, I'm seeing cyclists everyday.
I'm well, rested and making progress again. Going to get an early start in the cold to beat the bugs.
