The Rise Up Ride logo is the artistic creation of Spencer Hawkes, a very talented graphic and comic designer. By day, Spencer “wrenches” at Cambridge Bicycle and by night he creates adventure patches and stickers.  His bicycle artwork came to my attention on his Etsy site:  https://www.etsy.com/shop/nomadpatches

Spencer writes, “I draw and ride my bike every day and I'm always planning another bike tour, sub 24 hour overnighter or trip to the woods. I also read and draw comics, which like biking, take me to amazing places.” This was the artist who I chose for this work and I am thrilled with his design.

It was a pleasure working with Spencer on this commission and I enthusiastically recommend him for any cool design work. Over the course of several weeks, I sent Spencer examples of artists who I liked, shared with him the creation story for this adventure, and hoped he might include some of these elements in a logo that would unify the adventure in a single image. As Spencer sent sketches and I offered refinements, the logo revealed itself.

I love this logo for how it soars! My loaded bicycle defies gravity, rising above the horizon and the path that gently extends past the curve of the Earth. There are some cool details in the bicycle as well, since Spencer knows touring bicycles; the S&S couplers on the top and down tubes; the perfectly drawn Ortlieb panniers; the curve of the front Tubus rack, the orange gear loops on the front of the Revelate bags between the drops of the handlebars; the bright orange Watershed Drybags Ocoee Duffel that sits on the top of my rear rack; and even the Brooks B-17 saddle!
